July 6th: Liberty Workshop with Yoann Levesque, Lyrical Acres Indoor Arena, Lewiston.
Yoann was a trainer and performer with Cavalia, starting as a Trick and Roman Rider before becoming a horse and human trainer.
He is as empathic and encouraging with his human students as he is with the horses, and we all learnt a huge amount in a supportive and encouraging environment. Lots to process. Lots to practise. Plus heaps of great memories.

We were privileged and delighted to host Colleen and Doug Rutherford, who took time out of their nomading around South Australia to share their expertise and experiences in judging Arabian Horses.
It was an excellent opportunity, not only for prospective Judges, but for those who show their horses and want to know more about what Judges
look for in the ring.

May 2021: Positive Reinforcement Training with Lisel Rosewood
Another great clinic with Lisel. Some horses on their first outing since arriving at their current homes. Some humans new to positive reinforcement. All the horses eagerly munching on the treats that were generously donated for the clinic by Hoofbeat Treats.
Thank you Lisel for everything yesterday. Miss 6 started today with some clicker training and is already feeling a lot more confident with her pony. 'I can get him to move off of me.' We started with the backing this morning as he already had a rough idea of the clicker, then we did some head down. We are going to do clicker math later today as she was super excited to hear about that when I got home last night.
Thankyou so much for today I have come away with lots of new skills to use.
So happy with Dizzy, she tried her heart out today.
It was so great to see so many familiar faces as well as some new ones!!
I hope everyone found it as rewarding as we did, thanks so much Lisel Rosewood
Thank you Lisel for your help today. Very informative sessions, with lots to take home and work on. One very tired boy tonight.
A few personal mile stones for us today. Very happy Thankyou!
FEBRUARY 2021: A LONG WEEKEND WITH AMANDA
Despite a few preliminary hiccoughs ( booked accommodation being cancelled due to urgent building repairs, Victoria being locked down, Victoria being unlocked but no official announcement being made until a few hours before Amanda was due to leave home) Amanda made it to SA in record time and spent four days instructing SAFE Members and Friends.
Friday and Monday were devoted to private lessons, with students from Yorke Peninsula and Harrogate, while Saturday and Sunday were spent at the indoor arena at Lyrical Acres, working in long reins, in-hand, and with garrochas.
Was so much fun. Thanks so much
Thank you SAFE, it was a fabulous experience.

DECEMBER 2020
We were able to hold our first fund-raising bbq in a while, at Bunnings Gawler Green. The staff were a delight to work with, and could not have been more helpful. Crestline Meats continued their sponsorship of SAFE by providing their yummy sausages at cost price.
Pom manned the bbq for the entire day, resplendent in his bespoke, pink, SAFE apron: possibly to ensure that our Treasurer was not given the opportunity to cajun any onions. Some may call them burnt, but ..........
Volunteers had a great day: greeting friends, chatting, laughing lots, and occasionally hanging off the gazebos to prevent them taking off in the powerful wind gusts. As well as delighting customers with the expertly cooked snags and onions, and chilled soft drinks, there were many cries of thanks and 'such beautiful horses' in response to the offer of back issues of Arabian Horse News which were gratefully accepted, and put big smiles on faces.

Another first for SAFE, when Mark Holgate of Adelaide Sword Academy joined us for a session pf Rossfechten (Mounted Fencing).
Mark was a great instructor - the right pace, and the right amount of learning. Thanks Mark!
What a great day! Sword play on horseback!
Big thankyou to all the team for putting together such a fun outing. Thankyou Cookie for a fabulously yummy lunch 😋
Massive thankyou to Mark for teaching us basic sword fighting... and for letting us chop his head off a few times! 😂
Looking forward to more sessions in the future👍
Really enjoyed it, thank you!

What a day! Bit fitting with Jane Tscharke from Bit Fit Australia, instruction and consults with Dagmar from Animal Communication, and live streaming of the results of the online competition.
Jane did an amazing job, and 6 very happy horses left the arena, having benefited from her expert advice and service. We will definitely invite her back for another session very soon.
Dagmar was her usual amazing self :-). As well as giving a presentation about animal communication to those who hadn't met her before, offering bodywork and communication session (some in person, some remotely), she repeatedly stepped in to resolve issues that arose unexpectedly during the day. I suspect that our horses store up minor issues for her visits,; knowing that all will be well by the end of the day.
Thanks to Sandy we were able to live stream show results. We received show entries from WA, Qld, Vic, NSW and, of course, SA, and it was wonderful to be able to include everybody who couldn't be with us in person.
Martin Clunes, assisted by Bruce ('He's Scottish') recorded a delightful video in which he announced the results of the Open Liberty class and sent us his best wishes in these trying times. What an absolute gem of a human being :-). We are unable to upload the video here, but it can be viewed from our Facebook page.
This is no way detracts from the effort and support that our other Judges gave us. Karen Fletcher-Grieve, Glenys Lilley, Barrie Stratton, Alison Gray, Kizzie and Etty: thank you all for taking the time to judge for us, and for the encouraging and inspirational comments that you offered.
June 2020 Online Show
Refusing to be cowed by CoVid, but unable to share the fun we were having with our horses in person. we decided to get together using the internet for an online show.
Videos and stlll shots were uploaded for judging by the wonderful
Karen Fletcher-Grieve (Breed and Open Classes)
Glenys Lilley (Breed and Open Classes)
Barrie Stratton (Dressage)
Alison Gray (Dressage)
Kizzy and Ettie of Kizzy and Ettie's Pony Adventures (Junior Fancy Dress)
Martin Clunes OBE (Open Liberty).
We are immensely grateful to all of them for giving up their time to judge. We are also immensely grateful to our generous sponsors
Khara Nash of Heavenleigh Horsewear
Rebecca Marks of Devizes Arabians
Karen Tanner of Here, There, and Everywhere
WE look forward to uploading results and photographs here once they have been announced via live feed, commencing at 1pm Adelaide time on Sunday 26 July.

Positive Reinforcement Training with Liesel: Oct 2018
Another fantastic day. Some people new to the techniques, others building on what they had learnt at our first clinic with Liesel and been practising since. Several lightbulb moments for horse and humans, and smiling faces throughout the day. We will be inviting Liesel back very soon.

Thank you to Nikki and Anthony for being incredibly professional and patient with us today.
To any members that are thinking about showing their horse in hand, no matter the breed, please consider coming to our next clinic with Nikki and Anthony which may well be as soon as December
A huge thanks to GG Equine for a fantastic and informative weekend of halter, ridden and prep lessons. Catering to all levels of horses and owners with some ripper results being seen. Everyone went home armed with heaps of information and plenty to work on.

Picnic Day at pleasant banks: January 2018
Dressage Encourage Day: October 2017
Huge thanks to many people, without whom this day could not have gone ahead.
Firstly, Pegasus Pony Club: for hiring us their grounds and equipment, and for erecting their dressage arena for us.
Lizzie and Courtney: your patience, support and good humour were amazing, and very much appreciated.
Gordon Conaghty ran the canteen for us, and scored many happy diners with his gourmet burgers. Thank you :-).
Jackie Gould-Hurst manned the gate and checked gear all day.
Sonia Conaghty defied the high winds and called tests for everyone who requested her help.
Riders defied the weather and high fire risk, turned up with smiling faces, and were still smiling at the end of the day.
Thank you all :-).
A big thank you to all that worked so hard to make this day possible. The encouragement and friendliness was wonderful. Despite the gale force winds and my horse first thinking that we were trail riding through a paddock and was then disappointed the gate to the road was locked, she still had much better focus in the arena than i had! She is such a good girl, we had a great time, thank you.
Amazingly behaved horses in this horrific wind , i had a blast ,pun intended , thankyou everyone for all your help , and the great conversations

Bogan Winter Fun: June 2017
No surprises when someone said 'Hands up who didn't need to go op shopping to find something to wear this evening' and every hand in the room went up :-).
I had the best time, I haven't laughed so hard in a long time.
Had a blast. Thanks to the committee for organising a fun night out. And the sponsorship. Many great prizes.

Holistic Horsemanship Clinic with Sharyna from Consciously You: May 2017
Had a fabulous day today running a clinic for SA Friends and Equines at Reeves Plains. Had a fantasttic group of horses and owners. Everyone was so receptive an...d open to everything I had to say and really took it on board. Certainly a day well spent and I look forward to my next trip up that way. Thank you so much to everyone who attended and to those who organised the event. I hope to meet you all again in future!
Great day. Learnt lots. Thank you for your support. Now to put it to some use.
Thanks for such a great, chilled day. Definitely looked at horsemanship from a different angle.
Thanks, was a great clinic. Good to see a trainer being in tune with both horse and human, being effective without force.
Awwww! Shows how relaxed we are!

A lovely positive vibe from the instructor and riders. Thanks all I had a blast.

Dressage Critique Day July 2016
Huge thanks to Jan Boyd, for her excellent instruction and unending patience, to Sue Wiltshire for demonstrating her multiple talents, while moving between canteen, pooper scooper and Penciller's Chair, and for everyone who attended and made the day such fun. Our youngest rider was an inspiration to us all with her persistence and determination. Well done everyone :-).
Instruction first was great. Then some pointers on how to do a test.
Then have a go 2 or 3 times if you wished.
You guys would love the events we hold. No pressure FUN days with our horses
What a fun day
Had an excellent day with learning so much..
I have so much to work on 😊.
Puddy was awesome! You should be so proud of him and yourself!!!!!!!!

STEVE BREWSTER CLINIC JUNE 2016
A great time was had at both ends of the arena, and I hear that there were a few sore muscles the next day, courtesy of Steve encouraging riders to find bits of their bods that they hadn't used for a while. Several people have asked if we can invite Steve back for another clinic, and we definitely will: subject to his availability.
Huge thanks to Michelle, who gave up the opportunity to have a lesson with Steve herself so that she could be available to help people who wanted to build their confidence (ready for a lesson with Steve next time, perhaps?). Thank you Michelle: for volunteering your time and energy, and for willingly missing out on a StevieB lesson. Next time :-).
Thanks for today Michelle was nice to come along and have some fun.
Thank you for an amazing day and teaching Brodie to slow down our adhd pony down.
Can't wipe the smile off his face.
Watching you work my boys was great.
Seeing Leo calm down and not be so speedy and responding was wonderful to see.
Brodie will be practising everything you taught him today.

Brodie and I had a ball and the drill was fun.
Great day again. FANTASTIC WORK from the committee. Good food and drinks. Was FABULOUS to see lots of people helping, even the poo picker uppers. It makes everybody happy not to be stuck doing it at the end of the day. THANK YOU.
hey guys just wanna say a big thanks to everyone today, this was the third time i have got on my horse outside of my comfort zone, i have only learnt to ride as an adult and only in the last few years so my confidence isnt the best, i am lucky to have such a chilled horse and even more blessed to have met all of you guys to be able to ride without judgement and to go at my own pace ( and yep sometimes it is a pace ) is great ...this is a wonderful group of people with a great level of knowledge and a brilliant level of support ...so THANK YOU EVERYONE i love it :D
April 2016
We serendipitously chose a beautiful Autumn day for a trail ride at The Lewiston Wetlands: a place that we had talked about visiting for some time, and one that is definitely on our list of places to return to.
Fantastic day. We totally enjoyed ourselves. Great location, and such a lovely lunch after, thank you, and Daniela loved the playground! Winner for everyone.
We should use this again another day.

March 2016
We cheated the heat by starting and finishing early, and keeping a close eye on hydration levels of horses and humans. Fourteen horses made use of the indoor arena, and in response to multiple requests from humans who attended, we will hold similar days in the coming months. So good to see everyone being aware of other horses and riders, giving space when needed, and help and advice when requested. No photos, as we decided to keep costs down by not using the lights, but lots of good memories.
'I just wanted to thank the committee for organising the event today it was very hot but I enjoyed catching up with a few people and I was wrapped how my horse went today . Here's to the next one . thanks'
'Yes a lovely day thank you for organizing it!!'
'Had a great time !!! Even though I sweated something awful ! Lol
Would look forward to more of these ....'

February 2016
Another spectacular beach ride!
We were greeted by a passing seal just as the sun rose. The tide was high. The water was warm, and just a scattering of people on the beach; all of whom stopped to chat and laugh as the horses rolled after their swim.
The best way to start the day. How lucky we are to live where we do :-).

Blacksmith's Inn: January 2016
Sunday lunch at The Blacksmith's Inn was a great way to kick off our new year. Lots of laughter and, as always, some unexpected topics of conversation: one of which resulted in the only male present leaving the lunch table to read his book in peace ;-). This is why we always try to book private rooms for our gatherings.
Committee and other dedicated Members stayed on until we were politely removed so that the dining room could be prepared for the evening sitting. Lots of brain storming, our February and March activities organised, and decisions made on how our ORS grant will be spent. This is how committee meetings should be: productive, but fun :-). Members are always welcome at SAFE Committee Meetings, or, if you can't make it, ideas, compliments and criticisms are also welcome by email.

Well done to all involved in a well run day at an awesome location on Sunday at Expose your equines. Felt very welcome and am pleased to now be a member too so that I can still enjoy interacting with our boy, instead of just being the feeding source and poo picker upper (although I really enjoy my contribution). Look forward to seeing all at the AGM and more fun days to come.
What a great day out. People have asked about the day, and if there is another one they would like to come.
Tommy would like to thank SAFE for allowing him to come to Playgroup today. He had lots of fun, and he apologises to anyone he may have interrupted when he was having ball time.
Lunch At Sneaky's
Thirteen of us met for a lively lunch: great food and wines, great company, lots of laughter, and many suggestions for activities to be organised. Thanks everyone!
It was a lovely lunch and with great company and was nice to meet new people.
Glad I went and met everyone :-)

and winter fun afternoon
6th july 2014
Count me in for the next clinic!
My family and I came to your event today to watch and find out more about your club. Had a great time and met lots of really nice people. Thank you to the committee for what seemed like a great day for all. Looking forward to joining up and having some fun adventures with a great group.
Great day out, thank you SAFE
Hope everyone had as great a time yesterday as I did. Watching the nervous looks and body language transform into beaming smiles, and hearing the laughter and mutual encouragement was wonderful. Where to start with the thanks? Wendie for once again donating soup and cake and manning the canteen. Anne for helping throughout the day and manning the broom at the end. Sam for her great instruction, and for sharing her love and enthusiasm for side saddle. Sonia for instructing the afternoon session. Jess for capturing the action and smiles despite the frustration of shooting in such poor light. The horses for being so well behaved and making us laugh. The riders for their infections joy and enthusiasm. See you all again soon.
Great day out today. Thanks to the organisers. So glad I brought my boy down to get him over his indoor phobia. Great bunch of people too.

NORTHERN HORSE FORUM
19th JUNE 2014
A great evening organised by HorseSA. The new facilities at Roseworthy are stunning: a long time coming, but so worth the wait. The Staff present were wonderful, and the presentations were very informative, as well as entertaining. I got to cuddle a Dung Beetle! Unwillingly at first: but what a cute face.
Thanks, as always, to everyone who works so hard at HorseSA for the benefit of us and our horses, and to everyone who gave up their time to participate in last night’s presentations.
It was a great night. Facilities were fantastic. Comforting to know we have this clinic should the need arise. Hopefully not though.
Was a fantastic night
Great night!
EMPOWERING EQUINES ROUND 2
14th JUNE 2014
Thank you to everyone for a very enjoyable day, and for piling in to clean up without being asked. I think we should be very proud of how we work as a team, that has formed in a relatively short time without anyone pushing to make it happen. Special thanks to Robyn, who wrangles the exploding seats with great skill. To Hazel and the pooper scooper. To Wendie, Anne, and Emma for runnng the canteen, and for Wendie's donated homemade soup (yummo!), muffins and cake. To everyone and all the horses who attended for your great attitude and smiling faces.
Thankyou for putting on Empowering Equines today !
I learnt a lot and it's great to get out there with such a supportive group . Helen Barnes was great and I want to come to the next on.
FANTASTIC day for us today and I never mind pitching in to help when it is appreciated (goodness knows I have done it enough times when it is NOT! Lol)
Loving my Giraffe more and more and this great bunch of people help to make it so much more enjoyable!

EMPOWERING EQUINES ROUND 1
1ST MARCH, 2014
Now I have recovered - until the aches set in tomorrow, I would like to say a HUGE thanks to Helen Barnes and all who organised our first safe clinic!
It was exactly that - SAFE!
What a lovely, encouraging bunch of people to spend a day with!
I say this on behalf of myself, my daughter Hannah and Hazel (who doesn't have FB). Oh, and our horses!
I am so proud of both if my boys and Hannah - we has a FANTASTIC day!
It really made me rethink why I own horses.
I have spent many years showing and have forgotten the real reason that I love my horses.
We can't wait for the next event. We may even have steering by then! Lol
Thank you for putting on such a great day at BVPC.
I received a lot of encouragement and support of which I am extremely appreciative. I liked the sound of your promotional write up and thought I may be able to participate. I also know Helen who had explained the format and thought that it would be a great way to get myself and my horse out for the first time in a low key non-threatening environment with others who may well be in the same position as me albeit for varied reasons. The group ethos is tremendous and I hope there are more events in the near future.
One important point to me is – I would not have taken this first step for probably quite some time if I did not have this environment to do it within. I have come ahead in many different areas by participating on Saturday and am excited to be looking positively ahead to the next step in my progression towards the goals I have set myself.
Please thank Helen, the committee, volunteers, fellow participants (for being a wonderful non-judgemental group) and anyone who was involved in making the day a success.
Cheers
Dinner & Movie Night
31ST January, 2014
A meet and greet ~ fundraiser was organised, with dinner at The Louisiana Tavern followed by a choice of movies at the adjacent Reading Cinemas.
People braved the hot weather and had such a great time chatting, laughing, swapping experiences and advice, that time got away with us, and our movie tickets were filed in our wallets for use at a later time.
The success of the evening was very encouraging, and we look forward to many more such gatherings.
