Keeping this website updated has dropped down the list of things to be done, for which our Committee apologise, and hope that you have been checking out SAFE's Facebook page, which IS kept updated, and is our primary means of communication.
However, as we all begin to commit to attending events with our horses, and great opportunities continue to come up, we will do our best to keep this website updated and a source of current information about the Club.
It is also a great reservoir of fun times spent together in the past, and we hope that you all enjoy scrolling through the photographs and comments on our Past Events page.
The next few months are going to be busy and exciting. We look forward to seeing you at one of the events advertised on our Upcoming Events page.
Annual Report to the 2017 AGM
SA Friends and Equines had another successful year, with plenty of positive feedback from people who attended our events. We have continued to organise monthly activities, including some structured clinics with accredited instructors, as well as informal gatherings of Members and our horses.
Thanks are due to everyone who helps run our Club: by suggesting and organising events, ensuring that they pick up all manure and spent feed from around their floats before leaving venues, and by coming along to events with smiling faces and positive attitudes. However, particular thanks are due to Peta and Nathan Wilson, and to Hazel and Brodie Towler; who all worked their socks off at the Bunnings bbq we were able to run. Their efforts enabled us to raise over one thousand dollars for SAFE. Thank you Guys.
Our three largest expenses remain as insurance, venue hire and instructor fees. We made considerable losses on structured clinics, and heavily subsidised them with funds raised at the Bunnings bbq, but those funds are now exhausted. Several requests have been received for us to organise clinics with instructors, including Lucy Williams. Such clinics are not financially viable unless we can guarantee a minimum of 20 participants (Lucy quoted us $800 for one day’s instruction, to which we have to add venue hire of at least $225). In order for SAFE to be able to hold such clinics, we need all Members to promote our activities and encourage as many interested people as possible to attend. We also need people to pay for events by the closing date for bookings, which are scheduled to enable us to cancel, without incurring penalties from venues and instructors, if there is insufficient interest.
Continued interest is expressed in Expose Your Horse. Unfortunately, the wind seriously hampered activities at our last one, and damaged/destroyed equipment. Suggestions for more obstacles are welcomed, as is any offer of help to construct equipment (which needs to be easily transported and to fit into the club trailer when not in use).
Committee meetings and our evening of Bogan Winter Fun have been held at The Old Spot: which offers free use of The Coachman’s Room which is equipped with audiovisual equipment. However, there have been several incidences of inedible food being served, and our Committee are actively seeking suggestions for other suitable venues for us to use. SAFE has access to a laptop and projector, so please let us know if you know of any suitably sized and reasonably priced venue that has a plain, white wall that we can project onto.
Thank you to all of our Members and our very generous Sponsors. Please remember to thank Sponsors, and to support their businesses as actively as they support our Club. We look forward to another year of fun and learning.

2016 AGM
SA Friends and Equines 2016 AGM was held at The Old Spot Hotel, Main North Road, Salisbury Heights on Saturday 09 July 2016.
We met at 7.00 pm for dinner, and enjoyed a great presentation and display about our Police Greys (thank you so much Sonia and Erin) before getting stuck into the official business.
Michelle Wiltshire was elected unopposed to the position of President, and Sally Gould-Hurst to the position of Secretary. Caroline Payne is in the second half of her two year term as Treasurer, and Jessie Rae Preece and Sue Wiltshire remain as General Committee Members, joined by Erin Conaghty and Monica Krahnert.
Thank you to everyone who attended, including Richard Shipton, SA Board Member of AHSA, who advised us that although we are not a club only for Arabs and Part-Arabians, he represents us and all other AHSA affiliated clubs to the AHSA Board.
Our fund raising raffle was launched on the night. Tickets will be on sale at all SAFE events between now and when the draw takes place (at our X Country Picnic Day in November). We can also allocate tickets to anyone who wishes to purchase by direct debit. There are a great range of prizes, some horsey, some not, so please don't miss out on this opportunity to support our Club. Please also remember to check out everyone who has donated prizes, listed on our Sponsors page, and support their businesses in return.
Well done to everyone who was lucky enough to win a door prize or the lucky square :-)

Our Committee are very excited to announce that SAFE is one of the very fortunate recipients of an equipment grant awarded by The Office of Recreation and Sport. The grants, of up to $5,000 per eligible club, are awarded twice per year: we were granted just over $4,200 in the second round for 2015.
The money can only be spent on items approved by ORS, and SAFE will definitely be purchasing a small caged trailer to transport our equipment to event venues, and a gazebo to act as a first aid station, and to provide shade at outdoor venues
We are very fortunate to have been awarded this grant and, on behalf of all our Members, the SAFE Committee offers our grateful thanks to the SA Government for the money which will help our club move forward and continue to offer exciting opportunities for Members and our horses.
AGM 2015
Thank you to everyone who attended our 2015 AGM.
Those who couldn't make it will get a second chance to meet Emma, as she will be joining us for our September event. More details closer to the date.
There has been a bit of a Committee reshuffle. Beck and Helen have resigned to spend more time on their lives outside SAFE. On behalf of all our Members, our Committee thanked them both for their hard work in getting the Club off the ground and helping to make it the great organisation that it has become.
Our new President is Kylie Scheffers, who will be ably assisted by Vice-President Sue Hollitt. Caroline Payne has taken over the role of Treasurer, and Michelle Waters is our new Secretary. Michelle Wiltshire, Sue Wiltshire, Sally Gould-Hurst, Malinda Watson and Jessie Rae Preece are our general committee members.
Our Committee is working hard to organise events for the rest of the year: the first of which will be our much-requested harness clinic. Full details will be publicised soon: it is scheduled for Sunday 12 July, and we will revisit the wonderful arena at Thistle Park. Lesson ponies will not be available this year: the morning session will focus on long reining (which is of benefit to all horses, not only those being prepared for harness), and private driving lessons will be offered after lunch. Keep an eye on your inbox and our Fb page for more information.
Our Committee was recently invited to attend a committee meeting of Adelaide Plains Equestrian Club. Discussions centered around the facts that the aims of the two clubs are very similar, and that our members are mainly located in the same areas (although SAFE has some Members from much further afield). It was agreed that we will work co-operatively, offering assistance when requested and practicable. APEC event details are publicised on their webpage, and our Committee encourages SAFE Members to check them out.

Our Committee submitted an entry from SAFE to the
2014 SA Regional Awards,
and we are delighted to announce that
SAFE was a runner up for the
Thoroughbred Racing SA Sport Award, Region: Yorke and Mid North:
a great achievement for a Club that had been in existence for less than a year when we submitted our entry:
we should all be very proud.
